Aroma’s Museum: Highlighting The Cultural History Of The Dominican Republic

Lifestyle

Perfect.Info, Aroma’s Museum in El Cortecito is dedicated to a cultural history of the Dominican Republic that often gets overlooked: the importance of coffee, cocoa, and tobacco in the nation’s history and development.

Spanish coffee and tobacco merchant Miguel Angel Fernandez used to visit the Dominican Republic often on business, and noticed no museum focusing on the crops that have been an intrinsic part of the country's history. In 2014 he joined forces with Ramon Ramirez and Wendy Gomez to open Aroma’s Museum, where visitors can touch, smell and taste the products that have helped make the Dominican Republic famous, and learn about the nation’s history from the time of the Taíno through the Spanish conquest and up to the present day.

Visitors can learn the trade history of rum, tobacco, coffee, cocoa, and Larimar stone (found only in the Dominican.)

“The museum is an opportunity for people to explore another side of the area’s history,” says Miguel. “It’s also a fun, educational experience for children and families.”
